Safe Environment

Thank you for sharing your time and talent with our community! St. Francis screens all volunteers and follows the Diocese of Raleigh Guidelines for the Protection of Minors.

Guided by the Charter for the Protection of Children and Young People (USCCB, 2002), the Office of Child and Youth Protection sought to augment safeguards that had been in place since 1993 to ensure the safety of children in the Diocese of Raleigh. The Diocesan Code of Professional Responsibility (1998) was re-written as the Code of Conduct for Church Personnel of the Diocese of Raleigh. All personnel, all who work and “represent the Church by virtue of office, designated position, employment or contract” share high expectations for conduct and respect for those entrusted to our care.

St. Francis of Assisi Behavioral Guidelines

The following are the volunteer levels at St. Francis. Contact your ministry leader to if you have a question about your safe environment level.  Please complete the appropriate form and return it to the “Safe Environment” at the parish. Your references should be individuals who have seen you interact with children. All paperwork is kept confidential. If you have any questions,  please contact Trish Adamkowski at trish.adamkowski@stfrancisraleigh.org.

Steps To Become A New Level C Volunteer

  1. Complete the one-page Level C application and return it to safe@stfrancisraleigh.org

  2. Attend the initial safe child training class (calendar here). After you attend the training, you will receive a certificate of completion. Please forward that certificate to safe@stfrancisraleigh.org

  3. The Safe Environment team receives three completed reference forms attesting to your suitability to work with minors.

  4. After we have received your application and the certificate of completion for the training, you will receive an email with instructions to log in and submit your background check.  Successful completion of the diocesan criminal background check is required.

  5. Once you have completed all the steps, you will receive an email letting you know you are approved to volunteer.

Renewing Level C Status

Level C volunteers are required to complete a yearly safe environment training module through the Compass system, which can be accessed on computers, tablets, and smartphones.  Current Level C volunteers will receive an automatic renewal email through Compass.  Please be sure your email address is accurate and up to date.

A background check will be run at least every 5 years.
