St. Francis’s Feeds Calendar
Welcome! If “feeding the hungry” is one of your favorite corporeal works of mercy, then this is the place to get all your information about upcoming opportunities through our parish ministries. We have opportunities where you can serve with your families, as a group, or individually. Some opportunities request donated non-perishable food; others prepare casseroles. Some package food for delivery; others deliver and serve food. You can serve on the weekday evenings, weekends, for a whole week at a time, or as it works with your schedule. We have opportunities for everyone!
Feeding calendar listing ministries with feeding opportunities is below. Click on a ministry, then select more details (bottom left) for clickable links.
Upcoming events are also listed in the Sunday bulletin and on our website https://www.stfrancisraleigh.org/announcements/
Feeding the Hungry with Your Family throughout the Summer
By Trevor Thompson and Becky Cawley, Office of Justice and Peace
If “feeding the hungry” is one of your favorite corporeal works of mercy, we have plenty of upcoming opportunities throughout the summer. We have opportunities where you can serve with your families, as a group, or individually. Some opportunities request donated non-perishable food; others prepare casseroles. Some package food for delivery or hand out food items from a pantry; others deliver and serve food. You can serve on the weekday evenings, weekends, for a whole week at a time, or as it works with your schedule. We have opportunities for everyone!
We have coordinated ministries here at St. Francis with Brown Bag Ministry, Oak City Cares, Ronald McDonald House, Panera Pick-Up, Migrant Ministry Fiestas, Caring Casseroles, Urban Ministries Helen Wright Center, and St. Francis Inn. Please check out our website calendar of these feeding opportunities – sign-up links and more details about each ministry: www.stfrancisraleigh.org/st-francis-feeds-calendar
There are also ample other organizations that serve the hungry in Raleigh that we would suggest you reach out directly to their respective volunteer coordinators. Organizations that we partner with and support in this capacity are: Catholic Parish Outreach, Interfaith Food Shuttle, Shepherd’s Table, A Place at the Table, Love Wins Community Engagement Center, and Our Lady of Rosary. You can check out these organizations’ websites for more details about upcoming opportunities and ways to support them.
Service often leads to encounter with people in need and this not only brings us great joy, it changes us. Even a small experience of service and encounter has the potential to lead us into a deeper reality, more compassionate perhaps, more in sync with God. Many continue to go hungry in our community. Almost 604,000 North Carolina households don’t have enough to eat, North Carolina is the 10th hungriest state in the nation, and, almost 1 in 5 children in North Carolina faces hunger on a regular basis (24.6%). As a people who care about justice and peace, and are called to love our neighbor, this unsettles us. We who have much want to give to those who are struggling. We hope you will find some meaningful opportunities this summer to serve. For more information or questions, contact – Becky Cawley at 919-847-8205 x267
