Helen Wright Center
The Helen Wright Center for Women, a program of Urban Ministries of Wake County, has been providing warm food, genuine care and safe shelter from the weather and violence to single women without children in their care, for years. Guests of the center are offered an opportunity to break the cycle of homelessness and achieve self-sufficiency through intensive case management services. The women establish well-defined goals and objectives, are connected to services in the community, and are provided increased access to medical and psycho-social services, life skills education and skill building. Case managers also help them find jobs, save money, and find a home.
Currently we serve a dinner meal every 3rd Wednesday of the month
and a breakfast meal every 1st Sunday of each month
and we are in need of help for both.

For over 20 years St. Francis parish families have been quietly and beautifully connecting with women at this center by providing meals, serving and visiting with them on a monthly basis. These families, by virtue of their humility and compassion for all people, attest to what we know to be true in the Gospels: reaching out to people in need not only connects you to them, it connects you to each other and it connects you to God. You become deeper, perhaps, more in synch with God, more in love with who God loves.
