K-12 Program Information

Cross Walk

Cross Walk is scheduled after the 9:00am* Mass to break open treasures of the faith that have just been proclaimed. After the conclusion of the Mass, children hear a 15 minute “proclaim” in the Church. This is presented by a dynamic speaker who challenges children to put their faith into action by living the Word that the Church heard at Mass. Just as the USCCB’s National Directory for Catechisis says, “Cathechesis both precedes the Liturgy and springs from it.”

Children then break out into small groups of approximately 10 children of the same grade. While in their small group, adult volunteer leaders build trusting relationships through prayer, games, hands-on activities, discussion on Catholic teachings, and service projects. Finally, the session ends with prayer, a presentation of their mission for the week, and dismissal to glorify the Lord with their lives.

We are reminded that parents are the first formers of their child’s faith and parent participation in Cross Walk celebrates and appreciates this precious vocation! All parents/guardians are invited to serve as volunteers through co-leading a Small Group or serving as an Adult Presence volunteer.

*Please note that the 9:30am mass will be changing to 9:00am effective 8/15/2021.

For more information about the Cross Walk program, please contact Tara.Moore@stfrancisraleigh.org or  Sarah.Bowser@stfrancisraleigh.org.

Cross Train/Cross Road

Youth and their families are encouraged to attend the Sunday 5:30pm youth-focused Mass. After Mass, middle and high school youth join together in small groups for dinner and social fellowship time with peers. Next, youth participate in the evening session which includes large group activities, as well as a catechetical lesson. Led by adult leaders, youth will break open the lesson while building relationships and a sense of community within their small group. Finally, everyone will gather back in the large group for prayer, their mission for the week, and dismissal.

In addition to our twice per month Sunday Cross Train/Cross Road sessions, youth are invited to socials, retreats and service opportunities to build upon the teachings presented each week. Join us today and grow in a deeper relationship with Christ and one another!

For the 2021-2022 school year, we are offering a home based faith formation program for K-5th grade only.

Grade 6-12
As our middle and high school youth are preparing for and living out the Sacrament of Confirmation, our middle and high school programs are designed is to create intentional disciples who engage deeply with their faith community. I’m interested in being a new CORE team member this year.  How can I find out more information about volunteering?
Thank you! Volunteers are always welcome! Please contact the appropriate coordinator based on your youth/child(ren)’s (see the table above.

I will be a CORE Team member this year, how do I register my child(ren) so that I receive the registration discount?
Core Team members were provided a special registration discount code. Enter the discount code when prompted to, and then click “Apply”.

What is the difference between an Adult Presence/Hospitality Coordinator and an Adult Presence/Hospitality Volunteer?
Coordinators are regular CORE Team members, are permanent volunteers, who coordinate the volunteers, and are expected to be at MOST Cross Walk, Cross Train or Cross Road sessions each year. CORE Team Members receive discounted registration fees. All parents who are not CORE team are expected to be non-permanent volunteers who assist with Adult Presence and/or Hospitality during 3 or more Cross Walk, Cross Train or Cross Road sessions per year.

What if another adult in my family wants to volunteer as a Core Team Member?
How wonderful!  The more the merrier! When registering your child:
The first person completing the online registration form (you) fills out the first volunteer (Volunteer 1) in Realm.
The second volunteer (Volunteer 2) will need to complete an additional online Volunteer Form. Please complete this online form: https://membership.faithdirect.net/events/details/1583.

What is a Level C requirement?
In order to serve as part of the CORE Team, (Adult Presence or Small Group Leader) you must be Level C Certified by completing the Safe Environment class and turning in all documentation to our office.  Certification is good for five years.  Renewal can be done online, please email Trina.Sugrue@stfrancisraleigh.org

If you’re not certified or if you are unsure, visit https://www.stfrancisraleigh.org/safe_environment/ for more information.

How many Cross Walk/Cross Road/Cross Train sessions is my child/youth required to attend?
Attendance is taken at every session. We anticipate that youth would regularly attend Cross Walk/Cross Road/Cross Train sessions. For youth in sacramental preparations Faith Formation is a vital part of sacramental preparation.

The deadline to register has passed, what do I do?
In order to provide a safe environment for our Cross Walk, Cross Train and Cross Road programs, a minimum number of Small Group Leaders are needed. Small groups are formed in September. After the 9/1/2021 registration deadline has passed, please contact the Children’s Formation Coordinator, Coordinator of Middle School Formation or Coordinator of High School Formation (see above table for contact information).

Other registration questions? Please email Patti.Panizza@stfrancisraleigh.org
