CROSS WALK

For Children in Grades K through 5

Changes are coming to Cross Walk in 2018-19!

Please take a moment to learn about the new Cross Walk model for this upcoming year by watching this message from Sarah Bowser, Coordinator of Children’s Formation.

Cross Walk is a small group-based faith formation program for our elementary-aged children, centered on the Mass, offering small-group fellowship in a fun, safe environment.

Our Sunday Cross Walk sessions meet twice a month during the traditional academic year. Because Mass is the source and summit of our faith, Cross Walk is scheduled after the 9:30am Mass to break open treasures of the faith that have just been proclaimed. After the conclusion of the 9:30am Mass, families hear a 15 minute “proclaim” in the Church with their child. This is presented by a dynamic speaker who challenges families to put our faith into action by living the Word that the Church heard at Mass. Just as the USCCB’s National Directory for Catechisis says, “Cathechesis both precedes the Liturgy and springs from it.”

Children then break out into small groups of approximately 10 children, arranged by grade level. While in their small group, the adult volunteer leaders build trusting relationships through prayer, games, hands-on activities, discussion on Catholic teachings, and service projects. Finally, as two large groups, the K-2nd graders and the 3rd-5th graders, separately end with prayer, a presentation of their mission for the week, and dismissal to glorify the Lord with their lives.

Additionally, the Formation Team offers monthly special events that will help build upon the teachings presented weekly at Mass and foster opportunities for families to grow in faith together. These gatherings reinforce the idea St. Francis is our children’s spiritual home, a place where they can have fun and be themselves, while knowing that they are valued and loved!

Please keep in mind that at least one parent/guardian remains with their child after Mass from 10:30-11:00am. Through this exciting opportunity, parents are invited to grow and learn together with their child, which is in accordance with the Catechism of the Catholic Church. We are reminded that parents are the first formers of their child’s faith and parent participation in Cross Walk celebrates and appreciates this precious vocation!

Families MUST be registered parishioners at St. Francis of Assisi to participate in Faith Formation. Click here to register at St. Francis.
