Faith Formation K-12 (CCD)

Our Cross Walk (grades K-5), Cross Train (grades 6-8) and Cross Road (grades 9-12) programs are group-based faith formation programs for our elementary school, middle school and high school-aged children. The programs are centered on the Mass, offering food and fellowship, in a fun, safe environment, with offerings to fit your family’s busy schedule! Our Sunday Cross WalkCross Train and Cross Road sessions meet twice a month, August through May. The Formation Team also offers monthly Family Events and other special events that will help build upon the teachings presented each week and foster opportunities in which the families can grow in faith together.  These gatherings will help to make our children feel “at home” at St. Francis, a place where they can have fun and be themselves, while knowing that they are valued and loved!

Cross Walk

Cross Walk is scheduled after the 9:30am Mass to break open treasures of the faith that have just been proclaimed. After the conclusion of the Mass, families hear a 15 minute “proclaim” in the Church with their child. This is presented by a dynamic speaker who challenges families to put our faith into action by living the Word that the Church heard at Mass. Just as the USCCB’s National Directory for Catechisis says, “Cathechesis both precedes the Liturgy and springs from it.”

Children then break out into small groups of approximately 10 children, arranged by grade level. While in their small group, the adult volunteer leaders build trusting relationships through prayer, games, hands-on activities, discussion on Catholic teachings, and service projects. Finally, as two large groups, the K-2nd graders and the 3rd-5th graders, separately end with prayer, a presentation of their mission for the week, and dismissal to glorify the Lord with their lives.

At least one parent/guardian remains with their child after Mass from 10:30-11:00am. Through this exciting opportunity, parents are invited to grown and learn together with their child, which is in accordance with the Catechism of the Catholic Church. We are reminded that parents are the first formers of their child’s faith and parent participation in Cross Walk celebrates and appreciates this precious vocation!

Cross Train/Cross Road

Participants are encouraged to attend the Sunday 5:30pm youth-focused Mass. After Mass, middle and high school youth will check in at the Community Center for a delicious meal and social fellowship time with peers. Next, youth move participate in games, music and opening prayer, followed by a dynamic presentation, through which they will learn the lesson of the week. Then, it’s on to small group, where he or she will gather with 10 to 12 other youth in the same grade and their adult leaders to break open the message and build relationships. Finally, everyone will gather back in the large group for prayer, their mission for the week, and dismissal.

In addition to our twice per month Sunday Cross Train/Cross Road sessions, other social events, special events, retreats and service opportunities will help build upon the teachings presented each week and engage Cross Train/Cross Road families as well. These gatherings will help our youth to grow in a deeper relationship with Christ and one another.
