Arduino Metal Detector

Design and build your very own metal detector from scratch! Wind the search coil using magnet wire, construct a Colpitts oscillator, interface it to the Arduino, and then learn how to code it. The closer the metal object gets to the search coil the higher the pitch of the tone emitted from the speaker so you have an idea of how deeply buried the object is! This is a really great class that lets students explore and understand the symbiotic, complementary relationship between hardware and software that must work together to yield a functional design. No programming or Arduino experience is necessary.

Note: Techsplorers highly recommends students bring their own laptop for use in class. For laptop setup instructions and requirements, please visit before arriving on the first day. Students who do not have a suitable laptop to bring or wish to not bring one will borrow a Techsplorers laptop. Robot built during class sold separately
