This upcoming week, Fr. Jim and I will be in St. Petersburg, Florida for a meeting of the guardians and pastors of Holy Name Province. The focus of the meeting will be on what our province calls “Fraternal Ecology” (see the statement on this below). As you may know, Holy Name Province, of which we friars here are a part, is beginning to address the fact of our numbers: we do not have as many friars as we once did, and the average age of our friars is around 70 years old. Our province has 30 ministry sites all along the east coast – parishes, shrine churches, colleges, soup kitchens – and we cannot continue to provide friars to serve in all of these places and so the Franciscan Ecology process described below is meant to address the growing reality of declining numbers of friars and what that means for our commitment to these 30 ministry sites. Please read the statement from the province below. Jim and I expect to learn more about the process at the meeting in Florida this week.

Blessings on your week!
