A few things this week…we continue with our 2019 Bishop’s Annual Appeal and we are about 40% on the way to our goal. There have been questions about whether any of the funds for the BAA are used for legal settlements related to clergy misconduct; the diocese assures us that no funds from the BAA are used for legal settlements, and the diocese had an outside audit firm confirm that.
Please note that the BAA helps fund important programs throughout the diocese, and our parish plays an important role in its support. Thanks to everyone who has contributed, and we ask that if you have not yet contributed, please consider your 2019 BAA pledge.
You may have heard that there have been several scam email and text messages that cleverly impersonate the friars or staff here at St. Francis, and which ask for iTunes gift cards or other donations. Please be aware that the friars or staff here will never email or text you directly and ask for anything like that. If you have any questions, please contact us here at the parish.
In light of the mass shooting in New Zealand last week, we prayed at mass last weekend for those in the Muslim community, and I sent a note to the Islamic Association of Raleigh expressing our condolences as well. As Franciscans of course, we follow the light of our patron saint who saw beyond borders and who stood in the midst of the battle lines between Christians and Muslims and spoke of the possibility of peace in a divided world. As Franciscans, we do the same.
Blessings on your week!
