Over the past few weeks we have been looking at our mission statement, and this week we look at the final section, “extending hospitality to all.” “Hospitality” – to make a place for, to open one’s home to, to be a place of welcome. We friars make it a point to welcome people from other faith communities to our church, as we realize that, as Catholics, we are a minority in the South, and that many people here bring relatives or friends to church who are not Catholic. A lot of people have told me how important that is for them. The Second Vatican Council in the 1960s opened up a window for interfaith dialogue for Catholics, and looked for what we have in common with other traditions. We follow that spirit here at St. Francis.
Thank you to all who have completed the parish survey, and in the coming weeks we will report back on what we have found, and how we see our pastoral planning process going forward. Thank you as well to the many people who have returned what seems like thousands of wrapped gifts in response to our Advent giving tree. Each tag carries a story, and each returned gift helps make someone’s Christmas brighter.
Blessings on your week!
