We continue this Thanksgiving weekend with a reflection on our parish mission statement, and this week the part that reads “by growing in holiness through our experience of Christ in word, sacrament, and one another.” “Growing” in holiness means that we are in process and on the way, that none of us has arrived yet.
Our experience of Christ in “word, sacrament, and one another” means that Sunday Mass is the center of everything we do as Christians. It all starts here: we hear the word proclaimed in the readings, remember the words and actions of Jesus on the night before he died, receive Christ in the sacrament of bread and wine, and live out our discipleship in the world, whether that’s at home, at work, at school, at the mall, on the highways, or anywhere.
It’s important to remember that we experience Christ in “one another” – Sunday Mass is not a private experience, but sends us out to live the gospel all week long. That is something I have seen in my time here as pastor, a sense that this parish looks beyond itself and is attentive to people, both within the parish and beyond the walls of the parish.
As you know we are beginning a pastoral planning process and that process begins with a parish survey, which you should have received in the mail within the past few weeks. If you have not yet received the survey, please contact Tricia Henry at firstname.lastname@example.org and she will be able to assist you.
And blessings on your week!
