Some post Francis weekend thoughts….

We warmly welcome Fr. Jim Sabak to St. Francis and we are glad he is with us. Jim is newly assigned to St. Francis and you’ll be getting to know him over the coming weeks.

Last weekend was a big weekend here – blessing of the animals on Saturday morning, followed by a confirmation mass at 10:00am and again at 2:00pm with our new bishop Luis Rafael Zarama, followed by FrancisFest on Sunday afternoon. At the blessing of the animals, I met several rescue dogs and cats and it’s always a beautiful thing to see these dogs and cats adopted and cared for by people. It’s very Franciscan – St. Francis saw God’s reflection in all of God’s creation.

We friars spent some time with our new bishop on Saturday and find him to be a kind and humble man – we are glad he is with us. And congratulations to our newly confirmed, 146 of them! Thanks as well to our staff who worked so hard to make the day a success. See page 3.

And FrancisFest on Sunday afternoon: the weather turned out OK. There were a lot of food trucks, games for the kids, face painting, a fair trade food table, a wine/beer tasting room (a big hit!), and, in Clare Fellowship Hall, a whole lot of bouncy things which kids were jumping up and down on, and that space was packed throughout the afternoon. Many thanks to all the staff and volunteers who worked to make the day a success.

We received a letter from Catholic Parish Outreach thanking our parish for its generous response to CPO’s recent food drive. St. Francis collected 9,665 pounds of food in addition to $6,792 in donations. Thanks to all!

On another note, we are planning a parish pilgrimage to Morocco for next June. Please see page 5 for more information.

Blessings on your week!
