As we mentioned in the announcements at Mass last weekend, we received a phone call the week before last from our provincial minister letting us know that we would not be getting a third friar. We were surprised to hear that news, but our provincial reminded us of what we have known for a long time now – that there are simply fewer friars in our province.
Good things have been happening during the summer in our parish. We hosted Vacation Bible School, and a parent told me about a book drive that the kids had, and how her children were initially reluctant to let go of some of their books but then came around, and how one of her children prayed this prayer before going to bed: “Thank you God that we have books. Please bless all the children who don’t have books, and especially all the children who get our books. Please help them to know your love.”
Our parish also hosted a homeless family over the Fourth of July weekend. The family spends their evenings in a meeting room in Clare Hall which is transformed into a makeshift living space. Many people of our parish come together to help support the family by bringing food and by spending time with the family. It’s another example of how our parish lives out the gospel in all kinds of ways.
Blessings on your week!
