Many thanks to all who helped to organize the prayer vigil for peace we hosted here on August 2. We had a nice turnout of around 200 people in the church. We had prayers, songs, readings, and at the end, an opportunity for people to offer their own prayers with incense. As one person said afterwards, “we needed that.”
Can it be true that school starts this upcoming week? Summer seems more and more condensed. Mike Watson, as you may know, is the new principal of our school, succeeding Jennifer Bigelow who accepted a position in the Diocese of Arlington, VA. We also welcome a new assistant principal, Colette Dziadul, who takes on the position that Mike Watson previously held. Blessings to all teachers, administrators, and students as we begin a new year.
Thank you to Adam McCarthy, chair of our Finance Council, for speaking at all masses this weekend. We invite you to take a copy of our 2015-2016 Annual Report, which has information and statistics on our parish, school, preschool, and columbarium. As always, if you have questions about anything in the report, please contact our Director of Finance, Rob Neppel. I have great confidence in, and am grateful for the work and oversight of our Finance Council.
Finally, this coming Monday, August 15 is the Solemnity of the Assumption of Mary, a day which is normally a holy day of obligation, but because it falls on a Monday is “abrogated” (meaning the obligation is waived). We will have our usual Monday morning mass at 9:00am that day.
Blessings on your week!
