PROJECT RACHEL

HOPE & HEALING AFTER ABORTION

You made the decision to have an abortion. It may have happened recently or many years ago, and yet that decision has left you confused and emotionally wounded. You were unprepared for the deep sense of loss you've experienced since that time and you've silently carried your pain.

Perhaps you've also experienced feelings of fear, anxiety, guilt, panic, or hopelessness. These can be typical -- not only for the woman who underwent the abortion, but also for the father of the child, the grandparents, close friends, even the assisting medical personnel.

What can you do? Where can you go? Who will listen?

If you are suffering from the effects of an abortion, we want you to know that there is help and there is hope. You can heal and you are not alone.

How We Can Help
Project Rachel offers a means to extend the healing grace of God. In a caring and hopeful context, you will be able to move toward reconciliation -- with yourself, your unborn child, your family, your Church, and God.

Your call to the Project Rachel office will be answered by a companion volunteer. The companion is there to listen. She may also discuss your options with you and help you to decide on the next step of your healing journey. All calls are kept strictly confidential.

At the center of your healing journey awaits a spiritual renewal; therefore, Project Rachel appropriates the services of specially trained priests to administer the Catholic sacrament of Reconciliation if desired. Referrals to ministers of other denominations will be made when requested.

When needed, counseling sessions with a professional therapist are also available. And small, confidential support groups convene regularly.

How to Reach Us
A trained volunteer will answer your call during the listed office hours; however, you may contact us by phone or mail anytime.

"I would now like to say a special word to women who have had an abortion. The Church is aware of the many factors which may have influenced your decision, and she does not doubt that in many cases it was a painful and even shattering decision. The wound in your heart may not yet have healed. Certainly what happened was and remains terribly wrong. But do not give in to discouragement and do not lose hope. Try rather to understand what happened and face it honestly. If you have not already done so, give yourself over with humility and trust to repentance.

The Father of mercies is ready to give you his forgiveness and his peace in the sacrament of Reconciliation. You will come to understand that nothing is definitely lost, and you will also be able to ask forgiveness from your child, who is now living in the Lord."

Pope John Paul II
