In the Footsteps of Christ, in the Spirit of Francis.

On behalf of the friars serving here at St. Francis of Assisi we invite you to consider a vocation to our way of life – either for a year or two as a Franciscan Volunteer Minister, or by committing your life to serve as a Franciscan Friar.

Our Province of the Most Holy Name of Jesus has been serving the people of God along the east coast for over a century. We are the largest province of Franciscans in America with over 400 friars serving colleges, urban ministry centers, parishes, the missions and a wide variety of social ministries reaching out to the very poor in our society.

Following the spirit of Francis of Assisi, we try to meet people where they are and respond to the genuine needs of the least of the Lord’s brothers and sisters. In our Mission Statement as a Province, we state that “we are disciples of Christ who seek to bring the Gospel into the everyday experience of all people through popular preaching, teaching and pastoral leadership. We foster Christian discipleship by collaborating with those whom we serve and by standing in solidarity with all people especially the alienated, the immigrant and the poor.

For over 800 years men and women of good will have sought to follow the way of St. Francis in every generation. It is a tribute to the basic decency and humanity of any person who looks to St. Francis as a model for their life. I invite you to look at our province’s web site: www.hnp.org and into your own heart to consider the possibility of a vocation to our Franciscan way of life. Franciscans are made, not born. All of us who are members of our Province began this journey one step at a time. It is a journey of the heart. If you are interested, don’t be afraid to try. We, your older brothers, will be with you every step of the way.
