This coming week we friars will be attending our provincial chapter at Siena College near Albany NY. A chapter is a gathering of the friars of a province; we friars here are part of Holy Name Province which is based out of New York City, with ministry locations from Boston, MA in the north to Tampa, FL in the South and places in between.

Our province holds a chapter every three years and it’s a time for the friars to gather for discussions on provincial matters, to hold elections for our provincial councilors, and to have discussions on new assignments for friars.

In April I was in New York and met with our provincial minister to talk about the possibility of our parish getting a third friar. He made no promises but did assure me that he would do all that he could. We hope to hear within the next few weeks about whether we get a third friar for here at St. Francis. We do expect to have a visiting friar here the week of June 11 – his name is Fr. Jacek Orzechowski and he is taking some time away before he begins a new assignment in Washington D.C. He just finished a three-month sabbatical in which he spent time in Morocco learning about Christian-Muslim relations and he also made a pilgrimage to Santiago de Compostela in Spain. We look forward to having him with us for a few days.

Blessings on your week !!
