Dear Brothers and Sisters,

Many thanks to Bob Randolph, Chair of our Finance Council, who spoke at each of the liturgies last weekend.  All households of the parish have been mailed the fiscal year 2013 annual report.  If you have not received your copy by now, or have questions about our finances, please contact Ben Whitehouse, Director of Operations.  All are welcome to participate in the Finance Council meeting on Monday, August 5, at 7:00 pm in the conference room of Anthony Hall.

Congratulations and thanks to several teachers in the Franciscan School who have achieved Basic Catechist Certification of Competency from the Catechetical Institute in the Diocese of Raleigh:

Susan Burdett
Kelly Canning
Stefanie Horgan
Stacey Kababik
Alison Marchi
Cheryl Stevens

Each of these recipients has successfully completed 72 hours of study in six areas including The Creed, Scripture, Liturgy, Sacraments, Morality, Prayer and Spirituality.

As you know, since the death St. Luke’s Pastor Msgr. Tim O’Connor, I have been serving as temporary Administrator of St. Luke the Evangelist Parish.  Bishop Burbidge has now appointed Fr. Robert Staley, currently the Associate Pastor of St. Bernadette’s in Fuquay-Varina, to serve as Pastor of St. Luke the Evangelist, effective August 12.  Though I was willing to serve at St. Luke’s in the interim, I am pleased to have Fr. Robert take over as Pastor so that I may once again spend my time focused solely here at St. Francis.

Over the past couple of years, and increasingly so in the past several months, we’ve been having trouble with the church sound system.  The problems have impacted the wireless system — hence the wired microphones which have been placed at the presider’s chair and altar.  Through end-of-year gifts from our parishioners, we have raised money to upgrade our sound system.  A committee of parishioners interviewed various companies and we have chosen to partner with Frank Yarborough of AVCON in Cary, NC, who is committed to working within our budget to provide an exceptional system so all can easily hear the spoken word in our worship space.  Already there have been some slight improvements, and you’ll hopefully notice (hear) more in the upcoming weeks.  By October’s Feast of Francis and our celebration of Confirmation with Bishop Burbidge, I expect that we’ll have a new system that will remedy our audio problems.

In the peace of Christ,

Fr. Mark
