Why are you excited about being at St. Francis of Assisi?

As a volunteer musician, I find myself challenged and fulfilled while learning and growing as part of our music ministry.  As a young adult, I am also excited to find many other young adults who are invested in positively impacting our community through service and stewardship.  Over time at St. Francis, we have been able to form friendships with a few other young couples and deepen relationships with other parishioners and staff who are now a central part of our faith journey.

What are a couple of things you have done to increase your sense of belonging to this parish?

My wife and I have joined some small faith groups, including Just Faith and a Small Christian Community to spend time with other parishioners and grow together in faith.  We also enjoy spending social time with many of the people we have met through ministries we volunteer in.

Where are you experiencing “new life” in your life right now, and how is this parish a part of this?

We are experiencing new life around a new job and career change.  Our community at St. Francis has offered incredible support, encouragement, and even guidance at times which has helped us find peace and joy in an otherwise tumultuous time.

Why are you excited about being at St. Francis of Assisi?  St. Francis has provided a sense of community for our family.  As members of the parish we have found many opportunities to connect and begin to develop a sense of belonging for our family.  From athletics to the preschool to the service opportunities there are plenty of volunteer opportunities and ways to get involved.  Becoming more engaged has also challenged us as parents to consider what is important within the faith journey for both us and our children.

What are a couple things you have done to increase your sense of belonging to this parish?  Since enrolling our children at the preschool, we have started to come to mass regularly again.  Our children enjoy the children’s service and the chance to see Mr. Jim, our Coordinator of Music and Liturgy.  We appreciate the opportunity to reconnect as a family in a faith community.  We have participated in athletics, worship services and various committees throughout the campus in an effort to use our strengths and get to know others who are in similar stages of life and faith.

Where are you experiencing “new life” in your life right now, and how is this parish a part of this? New life for me has been the gift of time to spend with the kids and chart my own course.  Not really a luxury many can afford, but the gift of time has also given me the opportunity to learn more about myself and what is really important in life.  The parish connection has helped generate questions and conversations for us that otherwise would not have taken place.

Why are you excited about being at St. Francis of Assisi?

I really like the welcoming atmosphere, the mix of young and old parishioners, and the “get things done” aspect of ministry and mission at the parish.

How have you increased your sense of belonging to this parish?

Since joining St. Francis a year ago, I have participated in the ministry called Job Connections, am a lector and have volunteered my time to be on advisory committee for the parish.  I also try to meet with Fr. Bill once a month or so as a friend/confidant on my spiritual journey.

How has St. Francis been a part of your faith journey in the recent months?

I am engaged to be married and so St. Francis has been instrumental for my fiancé and me as we prepare for our wedding.  We also have a 6 year old son who we are raising as a catholic as well.
